• HRCI Credits and Pre-Approved Programs

Frequently Asked Questions

The use of this seal is not an endorsement by HRCI of the quality of the program. It means that this program has met HRCI’s criteria to be pre-approved for recertification credit.

What does "Pre-Approved" mean?
While most GMA SHRM educational programs qualify for recertification credit, those marked with the "Pre-Approved" seal have been reviewed, approved and assigned a special HRCI program code to allow us to market as "Pre-Approved".

Must a program be "Pre-Approved" to receive credit from HRCI?
No. HRCI generally accepts "education related to the HR body of knowledge" provided by SHRM chapters for credit. Examples of items that typically do not qualify are, networking only events, new member welcomes, golf outings, GMA SHRM business meetings adn committee meetings.

When do I find out the program code for the pre-approved event?
HRCI guidelines are very strict in this area. The code will be available at the meeting location after the meeting and/or distributed to those that are confirmed in attendance. It is important that you check in and take your badge!

I paid for the meeting but couldn't make it, can I have the code?
No, HRCI guidelines are very strict in this area.

How many credits is the program worth?
HRCI typically awards credit on an hour for hour basis, less the time for announcements, networking and meals. GMA SHRM program schedules specifically identify the times/duration of the educational portion of the program. Click here for the HRCI formula for calculating hours.
