This session will focus on 5 new legal issues you need to know and best practices for conducting internal investigations.

You will learn: 
  • How to effectively manage employees with knowledge of the most recent employment law issues
  • Errors to avoid in conducting internal investigations
 
In this session our presenters will take a deep dive into the new DOL Overtime Rules and find out if you are truly ready for them.  We will also look at the issues of avoiding liability for arrest/conviction record, wrongful refusal to rehire and OSHA whistleblower and retaliation claims.

You will learn:
  • Options for dealing with the “newly non-exempt”
  • How to put in place defenses to the most common legal claims
 
        
SPEAKER BIO   SPEAKER BIO  
Jon Anderson is the Madison Office Managing Partner and a shareholder in the Labor & Employment Law Practice Group at Godfrey & Kahn, S.C.  He exclusively represents management in all aspects of human resource, labor, and employment law matters.  Jon is also a member of the firm’s Health Care Team, representing health care institutions and hospital systems in their employment and collective bargaining matters.  Jon also represents management in mediation proceedings and unfair labor practice hearings arising in a union setting.

Tom O’Day is an attorney in the Madison office of Godfrey & Kahn, S.C. and is a member of the Labor and Employment and Health Care Practice Groups.  Tom’s practice focuses on advising and representing employers in every aspect of labor and employment law, including the hiring and firing of employees, drafting and enforcing restrictive covenant agreements, litigating federal and state discrimination and wage claims, and drafting employment and severance agreements.
 
Jennifer S. Mirus is a partner at Boardman & Clark in Madison, Wisconsin.  Jennifer represents employers in all aspects of employment relations, including hiring, discipline and terminations, wage and hour issues, discrimination, ADA, FMLA, and harassment.  Jennifer also has extensive experience negotiating and drafting employment contracts, non-compete agreements, and employee handbooks.  Jennifer’s experience also includes conducting workplace investigations and human resources and management trainings for clients of all sizes.

Troy D. Thompson is a partner in the law firm of Axley Brynelson, LLP and a member of the firm’s Labor and Employment and Litigation Practice Groups.  Mr. Thompson represents private and public sector business organizations in all facets of traditional labor and employment, litigation, and business matters.  In addition to advising employers on day-to-day employment matters, Mr. Thompson regularly represents the interests of management in litigation pending before federal and state courts and administrative agencies. Mr. Thompson is a frequent guest speaker to business and human resources associations.
