Presentation Description

Most training programs that we send our managers to do not result in real change.  There are many reasons for this, including the structure and quality of the program itself.  However, another set of factors has to do with the follow up and framework within which the training takes place.  Without feedback and follow up activities aimed at increasing participants awareness of how the training subjects apply to them; most development programs have minimal impact on participant behaviors.

In this session we will explore together the why and the how of increasing your managers' self-awareness as a critical element for learning and success as a manager.  We humans cannot change what we don't notice, and most of us are unaware of our problematic habits or our strengths and weaknesses, other than in some vague way.  The image we have of our "true" selves is often very different from the self as perceived by others.  Most training programs are rushed and compact, so they afford little time for effective reflection or feedback.  Our focus then, will be methods for self-reflecting and coaching of managers so that they can create a "professional self" that fits the needs of the organization.

Our Presenter

Laura V. Page has been thinking about these complexities for a long time. As an independent management consultant for over 20 years, and a business consultant with two organizations before that, she has worked with many hundreds of managers in numerous contexts. She will share with us some of her conclusions and practical advice about developing managers.
