GMA SHRM Professional Development Summit

January 21, 2020
Alliant Energy Center

Session 1:  It's Time for A Compensation Revolution

Session 2:  Recruiting Made Easy – Maximize Your Time and Get Results You Want

Presented By:  Summer Rector,  QTI Consulting

Presented by:  Susan Thomson, Action Coach

Session 1

A total rewards system should include a base pay structure, bonuses, and annual merit increases, right?  Wrong…or not necessarily.  For years, these programs were defined as essential, but are they effective at attracting, motivating, and retaining talent?  Have we lost sight of their true purpose in the decades of evolution?  Join us as we discuss revolutionary ideas such as paying employees to quit, eliminating bonuses, compensation coaching, unique recognition programs, and more.
Participants will learn:
  • Actionable total rewards strategies that your organization can adopt to better attract and retain talent
  • How to develop a total rewards strategy that maximizes your organization’s return on investment
  • How to improve total rewards communications and understanding within your organization

Session 2

Do you ever have a tough time finding or retaining “A” players for your team? Do you ever dread the hiring process because it’s time-consuming and isn’t attracting the kind of people you really want? Are you doing “double duty” because you don’t have the right people in the right spots – and afraid that you can’t grow because you just don’t have the capacity right now?
Join us to learn about a radically different (and fun!) approach to hiring – one that consistently attracts only those people who are a great fit for your culture and for the role you need to fill. Best of all – it’s quick! What used to take months, can now take weeks instead. So you get to do what you need – time to focus on the business and you get an “A” player who can really help you grow. It’s a beautiful thing.

Participants will learn:
  • What makes your company attractive in the first place – why candidates would be interested in you vs. other companies that do what they do
  • A recruiting process that is proven to attract great candidates who are willing to work hard to be considered for your company
  • How to use psychometric profiles to dramatically improve the odds of a solid match with person and role
As Chief Operating Officer of QTI’s Total Rewards Consulting practice, Summer Rector leads a highly-talented team of experienced professionals who empower organizations to achieve greater total rewards impact.  Summer has over a decade of compensation consulting and administration experience having worked for such organizations as Mercer, DayNine-Accenture, and Health Care Service Corporation.  She is active in the HR community, serving in such roles as a SHRM Learning System instructor, Graduate School of Banking – HR Management School faculty member, and Wisconsin School of Business HR guest lecturer in both graduate and undergraduate programs.  Summer graduated from UW-Madison with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Management and Human Resources and holds the SHRM-SCP designation.

Susan Thomson is a former division president who candidly shares the good and the ugly of running a company with business leaders, so they move forward faster and more easily. She’s spoken to over 12,000 business leaders over the last 10 years about how to make a ton of money, how to be an inspiring leader and how to leave a legacy.
