Session 1

Each of us began our careers from an engaged, passionate place. We were excited and intrigued. However, with such demanding roles in today's world, it can be easy for us to lose sight of the meaning behind our work. Recent Gallup Poll Studies have estimated that on average, only 29% of an organization’s staff are engaged in their work. This correlates to 71% of people at any given organization being disengaged. It is estimated that disengaged employees have cost US companies over $450 billion a year.

But what if you could help employees re-engage in their work? What would be the impact on your organization if every person found meaning and purpose in their role? In this talk, you will learn how it's everyone's responsibility to manage influences, direct perceptions, and build aspirations that create organizational cultures with fulfilled employees and engaged teams. You will obtain tools built to help you influence employees through emotional intelligence. You will also understand a tactical method for helping employees see the meaning in their role so they can re-engage in their work.

Participants will learn:
  • How to build engagement focused working environments
  • How to increase coworker engagement
  • How to effectively communicate to build positive organizational momentum

Session 2

HR professionals often need to address and mediate difficult and at times uncomfortable issues raised by employees and managers. Directing or guiding managers and employees towards plausible solutions can be difficult, especially in situations that involve high emotional and personal engagement.  Motivational interviewing is an effective coaching method that HR professionals can use to help employees find the internal motivation they need to change their behavior to resolve their issues. It does this with open questions, affirmation, reflective listening and summary reflections (the OARS skills). Motivational interviewing is an invaluable skill for effectively addressing difficult personnel and organizational issues, especially those requiring behavioral change, employee engagement and ambivalence about taking action. The participants will receive several job aids that will enable them to conduct motivational interviews with confidence. This hands-on session will include skills practice, small group activities and large group reflective discussion.

As a result of this workshop, HR professionals will be able to:
  • Assess an individual’s motivation and confidence for change to become more engaged in the workplace
  • Conduct effective coaching conversations using a motivational interview approach
  • Resolve personnel issues through coaching
