Presentation Description

This Toolbox is designed to take a step back to review policies and procedures which should be utilized by the human resource department in keeping with good HR practice, to ensure compliance with the law, consistency with company objectives, and minimize risk exposure. The speakers will address the “Top Ten” list of common errors and omissions employers make in achieving compliance, based on the speakers’ personal experiences.

1.   Participants will be given an overview of what an audit of the HR department entails including specific areas to review and what to evaluate to ensure compliance with the law.
2.   This toolbox will provide an overview of documentation suggested for the employment relationship, beginning with the hiring process (interview procedure, offer letters, I-9s, reference check policy, etc.), wage and hour compliance, and personnel file documentation.
3.   Participants will learn about HR policies and practices relating to employee communications, including employee manuals and suggested content for manuals. 
4.   Participants will learn which EEO posters are required, and their placement.

Lauri Morris, L.D. Morris Law S.C.
Lauri advises local and national businesses on labor and employment law matters. She is skilled at providing proactive representation on a wide range of business and employment issues, including OSHA, managing employee leaves, wage and hour laws and non-compete agreements, and defends employers against discrimination claims before administrative agencies and state and federal courts.
