Mike Saraille - Extreme Ownership and the Laws of Combat: Leadership for Business and Life


MIKE SARRAILLE is a retired U.S. Navy SEAL officer, a graduate of the University of Texas McCombs Business School, and now a leadership instructor, speaker and strategic advisor for Echelon Front. Mike served fifteen years as an officer in the SEAL Teams and five years in the U.S. Marine Corps as an enlisted Recon Marine and Scout-Sniper. Mike served in SEAL Team THREE, Task Unit Bruiser alongside Extreme Ownership authors Jocko Willink and Leif Babin where he led major combat operations that played a pivotal role in the Battle of Ramadi in 2006. Mike assumed duties as the primary leadership instructor for all officers graduating from the SEAL training pipeline, taking over that role from Leif Babin. Mike was then selected for assignment to the Joint Special Operations Command where he completed multiple combat deployments.Mike is a recipient of the Silver Star, six Bronze Stars, two Defense Meritorious Service Medals, and a Purple Heart.

Upon his retirement from the Navy, Mike joined Echelon Front as leadership instructor, speaker, strategic advisor. He is CEO of Echelon Front Overwatch, a company that specializes in the recruiting, training and placement of U.S special operations forces veterans with companies seeking leaders with an Extreme Ownership mindset to build their ranks and dominate on their battlefields. Mike brings incredible combat leadership experience and business acumen to the Echelon Front Team, as well as unique insight and expertise on veteran transition and education programs.

 A speaker, coach and television host, Liz Nead is an expert in Bringing Life Back to Everyday Life. Her passion, Nead Inspiration is impacting the lives of thousands with life coaching, magazine articles, public speaking and life improvement television.

She directs and hosts an excited television show called the Life Dare aired on Fox five days a week, an “unscripted” show inviting people to learn from experts and take a “challenge” to bring the lesson to life. Liz also inspires by speaking and coaching to four key messages which focus on accessing each individual’s “game,” creating powerful vision and creating a Rockstar network.

2-C Employment Law Update, Jennifer Mirus and Brian Goodman, Boardman & Clark Law Firm

Jennifer S. Mirus is the Co-Chairperson of the Labor & Employment team at BoardmanClark LLP.  Jennifer has been practicing employment law in Madison for over 23 years.  Jennifer represents employers in all aspects of employment relations, including hiring, discipline and terminations, wage and hour issues, discrimination, ADA, FMLA, and harassment.  Jennifer also has extensive experience negotiating and drafting employment contracts, non-compete agreements, and employee handbooks.  Jennifer’s experience also includes conducting workplace investigations and human resources and management trainings for clients of all sizes.  Jennifer is a proud UW-Madison alum (both undergraduate and law school) and loves calling Madison home.  She is a sought out speaker for human resources groups and is a member of Boardman & Clark’s Executive Committee.

Brian P. Goodman is an attorney and a member of the Labor and Employment, School Law and Municipal teams at BoardmanClark LLP. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Goodman was a music teacher in Illinois and received his Master’s degree in educational administration from Northern Illinois University. He uses his experience as an educator to assist employers on a wide range of legal issues and is a frequent presenter on employment school law matters. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School, magna cum laude and was elected to the Order of the Coif. Mr. Goodman currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Greater Madison Area Society for Human Resource Management as the Vice President of Programming.

As Chief Operating Officer of QTI’s Total Rewards Consulting practice, Summer Rector leads a highly-talented team of experienced professionals who empower organizations to achieve greater total rewards impact.  Summer has over a decade of compensation consulting and administration experience having worked for such organizations as Mercer, DayNine-Accenture, and Health Care Service Corporation. 

She is active in the HR community, serving in such roles as a SHRM Learning System instructor, Graduate School of Banking – HR Management School faculty member, and Wisconsin School of Business HR guest lecturer in both graduate and undergraduate programs.  Summer graduated from UW-Madison with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Management and Human Resources and holds the SHRM-SCP designation. 



Nicki McCurdy, Senior Recruiting Consultant for The QTI Group’s Executive & Professional Search division, partners with organizations on strategic and immediate executive and professional hiring needs. Nicki has over 20 years of experience in human resources, including experience as an HR Generalist and Corporate Recruiter before joining The QTI Group in 2006. Her prior industry experience includes education, software technology start-up, high tech manufacturing, insurance and financial services. In her current role, Nicki is able to leverage her prior human resources experience to take a consultative approach in effectively partnering with organizations to recruit and hire top talent. Nicki graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with a Bachelor of Business Administration and holds the PHR and SHRM-CP certifications.
